As the
nights grow warmer there are more opportunities to enjoy your pond well
into the evening hours. Pond and fountain lights are beautiful
accents which provide a great deal of flexibility to create the perfect
nighttime pondscape.
LED and Halogen are the two primary categories of pond lights, each having their own advantages:
LED Lights
The
primary advantage of LED lights is that they last 2 to 10 times longer
than halogen lights. They are also more energy efficient per watt of
output, and run cooler making them less likely to warm the pond. LED
lights are more expensive than their Halogen brethren, although the
price differential continues to narrow. The main disadvantage is their
lower wattage, with a maximum of 6 to 8 watts available on the market
today.
Halogen Lights
Halogen
lights are not as durable as LED's, but they are still quite good.
The main advantage is they are available in much higher wattages,
commonly available in wattages ranging from 20 to 40 per light. In
addition, most Halogen light sets have color lens covers allowing you
to change the color of the lighting effect without having to replace
the entire light. These lights will run quite a bit warmer than
LED's, so be aware of potential pond warming effects.

What
we really love about this light (20W, halogen)is that it has an
adjustable beam, meaning you can open it up to create a soft flood
light, or tighten it down to highlight a pond feature. Must be used
with the Oase 150W Transformer (can connect up to 7 lights). By the way, the transformer is submersible - very cool! Can be used in our out of the water.
Available in LED 6.5 watts, LED 7.5 watts; or Halogen 20 watt and Halogen 50 watt. Can be used in or out of the water. Must be used with the Savio transformer (20 watt or 50 watt)
These LED lights are perfect to create a soft ambiance and at an affordable price point. The most popular is the 3 light kit which comes with a transformer.
